The North East Ambulance Alliance (NEAA) was created by the community based ambulance services of the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Its goal is to improve community service by strengthening cooperation among NEAA members and by educating the public about the emergency medical services available to them.
All Medical Transportation Has a Cost
The North East Ambulance Alliance can help you home after a hospital stay. However, there are costs associated with transporting you home. Your transportation cost depends on your medical condition, health insurance, and the type of medical transportation you choose. You can save money by choosing the medical transportation option that best suits you needs. Below is more information on the types of medical transportation provided by NEAA to help you decide which one is best for you.

| This medical transportation option is designed for patients who have difficulty walking, but are able to sit up and do not require medical supervision. Passengers are placed in a wheelchair which is then loaded into the van using a special lift. The wheelchair is then secured to the van and the passenger is transported to his or her destination. It is staffed by one person who is specially trained in its operation. Oxygen and lifting assistance into your destination are also available. The cost is approximately $35-50 for this service. Most health insurance plans do not pay for wheelchair van transportation. |
NEAA services can provide routine and non-emergency
ambulance transportation. However, this type of transportation is only
available for seriously ill patients. In order to qualify for
non-emergency ambulance transportation, the patient must meet the following
conditions:
NEAA can take patients by ambulance if they do not meet the above condition, however their trip will be considered not medically necessary by their insurance company, and they will be responsible for the entire bill. The cost for this type of transportation can exceed $400. |
NEAA offers an additional transportation option for patients who are to ill to sit in a wheelchair, but do not qualify for ambulance transportation and do not require medical supervision. The passenger is placed onto a stretcher and loaded into a vehicle called an invalid coach. The passenger lies down for the entire trip. It is staffed by two people who are specially trained in the operation of this vehicle. Oxygen is also available. The cost for this type of service is approximately $100. Most health insurance plans do not pay for invalid coach transportation |
